Powerhouse Updates

Stephen Robinson joined Beloit College in August as the inaugural director of the college’s Powerhouse.

Most recently, he was the global education director at the National Ability Center in Park City, Utah, overseeing the largest adaptive recreation program in the world. Robinson envisions the Powerhouse as a “vibrant, welcoming, and truly inclusive space where all Beloiters collide to interact, build community, and have a little fun.”

Powerhouse project manager Dan Schooff reports that each week brings something new to the increasingly busy construction site along the Rock River. At the end of August, the new basement floor was being poured, elevator and stair towers were rising through a space that once held coal boilers, and workers were installing steel for the new ground floor level. The $38 million project is fully funded and includes approximately $10 million in federal and state tax credits.
